Welcome to the original farm house built on the Estate... a lovingly restored 1930's Cape-Dutch style house with wide "stoep" overlooking our irrigation dam and the seemingly endless vines of the lower-Orange River Valley... Bezalel Estate Country House offers farm-style accommodation with authentic Green Kalahari hospitality.

The small self catering house amidst the vineyards and supprisingly near a dam was beautiful! I loved having my coffee on the stoep the next morning enjoying all these and the singing of the birds. Martiens, the host was kind and friendly. I got lost, arrived very late and he simply continued to be patient and helpful. I also very much enjoyed the breakfast the next morning at the restaurant at the big house. I do hope to return some day.
  • Moritz ★★★★★

Absolutely awesome stay! We enjoyed every second of our stay and definitely coming back next time we are in South Africa.
  • Yvonne ★★★★★

Martiens went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. The venue and wine was fantastic. Everything about our stay was great, I will recommend this to my friends.
  • Gabriella ★★★★★

We had the most wonderful stay in the "Farm House". The view of the vineyards is just marvelous and the perfect spot to watch the sunset ! There was even a beautiful dam where we had a morning swim! And we were invited to make ourselves at home walking in the vineyards. The restaurant has delicious food and we loved buying fresh fig jam and red wine balsamic glaze! Easy to communicate with the host! Definitely recommend!
  • Elsa ★★★★★

Good value for money and one can have a very good rest after driving far. Quite and peaceful, all you need to recharge your tired body and mind! Thank you! We really enjoyed the peace and rested well!! We can recomend staying over at Bezalel

Great value for money. Restaurant has a wonderful farm style menu. A definite must try when visiting the area. Beautiful farm, lovely wine tasting and amazing food. Thanks for letting us stay.
  • Tim ★★★★★

his place is a gem not only because it is an oasis of cool and sophistication but because of its tremendous history. Martiens and Maxe were generous and kind hosts who were thoughtful and full of knowledge about the local area and indeed the geology of this part of the northern cape. Their wine was delicious and the history behind their business fascinating. The art work on the wine labels was produced by Martiens himself and are very lovely. Take time to stay here.it is well worth it.
  • David ★★★★★

We arrived at the guesthouse in the late afternoon on a Saturday, and immediately decided that we'd have to come back to spend more time there. The quaint house has a fully equipped self cater kitchen, or a braai area There's a little river that you can swim in while you wait for the the wood braai to get to the right heat and flame level. The owner Martiens who is extremely friendly, told us that they have been here for four generations, minding the vineyard. Unfortunately we arrived too late in the day to enjoy the food, wine or brandy from the bistro on the premise but I'm told that is one of the things they are famous for, so I'm looking forward to eating there at our next stay. Everything was clean and fresh and if you are into photography, you will go wild at sunset. I highly recommend staying at this wonderful guesthouse
  • Christell ★★★★★

Thank you very much for a great time!! The wine tasting awesome! The food and hospitality at the Farm kitchen excellent. Definitely will stay there again.
  • Maynie ★★★★★

Lovely little cottage with everything you need !! The wine tasting which is part of it, was great and such fun, we will be back !!!!
  • Christiane ★★★★★

Everything was really great. We especially enjoyed the wine tasting with Anni. In the afternoon after the wine tasting we sat at the water and relaxed, which was wonderful. In the evening Maxé and Martiens even brought the delicious food to our accommodation, which we could enjoy with some of their superb wine.
  • Janet ★★★★★

The budget room was perfect for what we needed on route to the Kgalagadi. Comfortable bed, clean bathroom, kettle and bar fridge. Set in a lovely garden on the wine estate. Martien was very accomodating and the wine tasting with Ancha was a highlight.

  • Christina ★★★★★

Martien’s place is a refreshing oasis in the Khalahari. The accommodation is spacious, clean, comfortable and of good value. The setting amidst the vineyards is stunning. Most of all, Martien is an amazing host who is very knowledgeable about his surroundings, geology, wine, among many other things. He took the time to provide us a lot of useful information. He also shared his passion about alcoholic beverages. He gave us tips on how to efficiently do wine and brandy tasting. Note that you can have very tasty breakfasts and lunches here too. Overall, an excellent experience that I truly recommend!
  • Androniki ★★★★★

What a wonderful experience. Being on the farm staying the night and having the tasting of Bezalel’s finest products! Definitely worth the drive and stay. Thank you Martien’s for taking us on a very informative journey about your wines, Brandy and liqueur! Definitely recommend Bezalel to anyone and everyone. And to top it off, the accommodation was more than you expect, spacious, clean and stunning in its own unique farm style. Worth every cent!

  • Lynthea ★★★★★

Lovely, quiet cottage on a working wine farm on the banks of the Orange River - a relaxing stopover after a 2 week road trip through Namibia. The cottage is very tastefully furnished & well equipped. There is plenty of parking around the cottage, although not under cover. The wine & brandy tasting is an added bonus & well worth the time.

Lovely stay on a boutique winery. The hosts were nice enough to give us an upgrade on account of the hot weather which we were very grateful for. Wine tasting was excellent, the lady who gave the tasting was excellent and so nice. The gardens are beautiful. Nice experience thank you!!

Beautiful surroundings, and great wines!! We will definately come back here! The host were extremely kind and helpful!
  • Anine ★★★★★

‘n Pragtige gerieflike plekkie. Baie dankie!
  • Ellenanne ★★★★★

Wonderful place to stay in such a beautiful environment with vineyards on the farm. Very clean and neat. Enjoyed a lovely braai each night.
  • John ★★★★★

Comfortable, great value and definitely one of the best places I've stayed overnight in this area. I enjoyed a lovely sunset meal and drinks at a restaurant on the river on Martiens' recommendation. I would definitely return.
  • Bronwyn ★★★★★

This is a rare and beautiful gem. absolutley beautiful. Well worth the 15 min drive outside Upington. We were sorry we only booked one night. If you are a foreign traveller this is truly the best of who we are.
  • John ★★★★★

Our stay at Bezalel on a working farm was really enjoyable. The accommodation was private and very well appointed with all facilities as advertised. Wine tasting was fun and our hosts were able to recommend a nearby restaurant which we would otherwise not have visited. I look forward to sharing our story with like minded adventurous friends whilst drinking the wine we bought from the estate.
  • Loes ★★★★★

Nice cottage on the wine farm. Friendly hosts. We enjoyed the complementary tasting. Thank you, we had a lovely stay.
  • Pierre ★★★★★

Just one word: amazing. Martiens’ place is a true paradise. I stayed two nights at the farm and had a great time. The room was spotless, very comfortable and the Wine&Brandy tasting a proper experience. The passion the hosts have for the place and their work, but also for providing a perfect experience to their guests is remarkable. I would highly recommend this place and would gladly come back. Thank you for everything.
  • Jean ★★★★★

What a lovely place to stay, hosts just perfect and cottage was wonderful. All you need is there and good base for exploring the area.
  • Caroline ★★★★★

Awesome place. Unfortunately we only stayed one night. I highly recommend the place and the place deserves to stay there for more than one night. Lovely and welcoming couple. Their wines are super good and their products are fresh.
  • Mark ★★★★★

Our hosts went above and beyond expectations. Their venue is amazing, the wine and brandy experience has to be one of the best I have ever had (the wines are exceptional), and we were made extremely welcome. We are certainly fans and will be returning again soon to this relaxing paradise.
  • Willem ★★★★★

Excellent stay on a working wine estate. Beautiful farm house next to the dam with lovely view over the vineyards. House has everything you could possible need (including air conditioning in every room- crucial in this area). Martiens also shared his knowledge and passion about the wine and brandy making process over a tasting experience. Highly recommended!
  • Stephan ★★★★★

We had a superb experience @ Bezalel Estate.... Martiens literally spent hours with us explaining all the different wines and brandy's, his knowledge is not only exceptional but his passion for what he does is so evident. He not only has a love for the vine, but for sharing his vast knowledge of every stage of growth until the final product, we also loved the fact that Martiens actually drew and designed the labels himself (they are so beautiful).... We felt he went totally above and beyond what we expected.
  • Jon ★★★★★

Lovely farm stay cottage, it has everything we needed, clean, very convenient and Martiens was a helpful host.
  • Gregg ★★★★★

The cottage was spotless, quiet and spacious. Martiens gave us a wine and brandy tasting. His knowledge and enthusiasm are incredible. I challenge anyone not to enjoy the experience.
  • Justin ★★★★★

ou must stay at Martien's place, and if you can, book the larger unit! It's right next to a pond that is perfect for reading next to or dips. The unit I stayed in, the smaller one next to the tasting room was also amazing. The old house was very cool despite the punishing Spring/Summer sun. You won't be disappointed.
  • Kim ★★★★★

Fascinating environment! Good people. I'm embarrassed that I believed our family recipe for Malva Pudding could never be beaten, but, there's something in the secret they're keeping. Martiens took time to answer a bunch of questions we had, about the surrounding area, wine making, their family history - even some common interests. He is a decent, hard-working, fair man. Maxi was great too - no fuss; pragmatic and attentive.
  • Marc ★★★★★

Martiens, has an amazing place that we decided to stay there again on our return home. The hospitality and service, was outstanding that we couldn’t resist staying there again. Everything is clean, and they have all the necessary things needed for self catering. Taking a walk in the vineyards is just break taking and soothing. We will definitely go there again on our travels.
  • Julek ★★★★

Martiens and Maxé were great hosts. Maxé shared some great local spots we should visit, and all of them turned out to be worth while. We went strolling through the beautiful vineyards with one of their Great Danes, how often does one get to do that. Really great place to stay over and learn more about wine farming. Close to main attractions, about an hour from Augrabies and 15 min from Upington.
  • Marc ★★★★★

Clean and comfortable with all the amenities a self-catering unit requires. The estate wine, port and pot-stilled brandy tastings are an added bonus and are of a superb quality - you’re guaranteed to leave refreshed, with a bottle or three of the finest products of the vine…
  • Jan-Douglas ★★★★

It was a great experience arriving at a functional wine farm to a clean, spacious room, with the winemaker sharing his knowledge over a wine or brandy tasting.
  • Gwendolene ★★★★★

Well appointed 3 bedroom house on a private brandy estate. Cozy fire on the stoep..amazing sunsets...beautiful stars at night - good for the soul! Loved the wine and brandy tasting. Martiens was a gracious host and we loved our stay.
  • Claire ★★★★★

We spent a night here on our way to Namibia. A lovely space with everything you need. Fantastic wine and brandy tasting (will be sending off our order shortly!). Martiens is a knowledgeable and passionate winemaker. Would definitely stay here again.
  • Shaun ★★★★★

An excellent and charming cottage located on a working farm and winery. The the cottage is private with wonderful setting! Well worth returning to in future. Martiens is a wonderful host.
  • Frances ★★★★★

We really enjoyed the peace and tranquility of our stay. The wine and brandy tasting was excellent and very imformative. The cottage was beautifully decorated and very comfortable.
  • Ingmar ★★★★★

his is a lovely little gem, tuck away on a wine and brandy estate. It is very peaceful and quite here. We enjoyed running in the vineyards, reading a book, having a nap, the stunning sunset and the lovely climate (we were here in March). When you're here, try to slot some time with Martiens showing you the cellar. He's fantastically knowledgeable on brandy, wine and the history of spirits in general, we loved it. We had our lunch at the restaurant and cooked ourselves in the evening, since the restaurant closes at 5.30 PM. Works perfect and the food is delicious. If you are around Upington, this is definitely worthwhile spending a night or two!
  • Kevin ★★★★★

Nice little secluded place right on the wine farm where they make Wine, Brandy and Port. They also grow dates. You really get to feel like you are living on a farm.
  • Tembeka ★★★★

Lovely restful home in the vineyards. easy to find - right on the N14. Distinctive gate that cant be missed. The host, Martiens was very friendly and helpful. I arrived later than anticipated, just as guests to a wedding were arrived but he still made time to take me to the house and did an orientation. The room I was allocated had no cooking facilities or TV but he allowed me to use those in another room near mine. The room was spacious, comfortable and clean. There is space outside to sit and to braai and there is a dam a few metres away. There is wifi. It worked very well. Thank you Martiens for being so hospitable and even allowing me to come for wine tasting on a later day.
  • Deborah ★★★★★

Wow, what an amazing place to stay! We stopped for an afternoon and evening en route to Kgalagadi but wish we’d had more time at Bezalel estate. We found our unit to be spacious, comfortable and peaceful with everything we needed to self cater for our family of 4 (although there is also a restaurant on site.) We loved the beautiful gardens, enjoyed a very reasonably priced wine tasting and swam in the dam next to our unit. Martiens and his family and staff are extremely hospitable and communication was excellent. We learnt so much about South Africa from chatting to Martiens, he is a superb host. If you have the opportunity to stay here then don’t hesitate. Highly recommended.
  • Anrich ★★★★★

Kon nie vir beter vra nie die verblyf, kos, wyn en moeite wat gedoen is was perfek. Het elke verwagting oortref. Sal verseker weer en weer terug gan. Kennis van wyn en omgewing is puik en het heeltyd aandag gehad.
  • Moritz ★★★★★

Cheers so much for absolutely everything, Martiens! Coming into Upington in the middle of the night because of car troubles, you still made sure to give us the most warm and friendly welcome. Everything about your apartment is exceptional but standing out is your super cool and friendly service at all times. Big recommendation!
  • Roland ★★★★

Very pleasant accommodation in a restful location. Martiens is a super host and takes great care of his guests. Some details of the farm house are still being finalised and I am sure when all is finished, it is going to be even more spectacular than it already is. We particularly enjoyed watching the many birds that came to the lake and walks on the farm. We appreciated the air conditioning that is in all rooms and thoroughly enjoyed the wine tasting that was included. Thanks for the lovely stay on your farm and all the best for you and your family.
  • Johann ★★★★★

We were looking to break our trip between Pretoria and Cape Town and stumbled across this gem. Thoroughly surprised by what we got to experience, we received wonderful service and very educational wine and brandy tasting. The unit was also well presented and we could enjoy a very relaxing sundowner. Martiens really went out of his way and we really appreciated the effort!
  • Mally ★★★★★

Martiens's cottage is spacious and well equipped, including a complimentary decanter of Bezalel port! Martiens has a wealth of knowledge, not only of the history of the Estate (he is 4th generation) and of wine-making in the Northern Cape, but also of the surrounding area. We spent two nights there, and enjoyed the quiet, the ambience and the abundant birdlife. We'll definitely visit again.
  • Rosemary ★★★★★

If you're a keen birder, then this farm stay is for you; I managed to see 36 species in the short while we were there without too much looking. There are lovely walks through the vineyards or just laze on shaded verandah and enjoy the ambiance. We appreciated the generous supply of wood for our evening barbecue, and loved sitting listening to the night sounds outside on the wide verandah.
  • Jan ★★★★★

Martiens was a great host. The house is very neat and tastefully decorated. Al rooms are air-conditioned. Wine tasting included in the package, although we unfortunately could not attend. Thanks for a great weekend.

  • Jonny ★★★★★

Great location, super-friendly hosts, very comfortable and accommodating to all our needs. The port and cheese were awesome. Thanks for a great stay. We're sad we couldn't stay longer.
  • Divan ★★★★★

We enjoyed our stay, last minute booking as we are newly weds on honeymoon. We decided to have a adventures trip. Breakfast was delicious, wine tasting was educational and Elriaan our host was very polite. The dogs are very friendly and playful, a big garden for the kids to enjoy themselves as well.
  • Corrie ★★★★★

What a great stay. As noted in another review, Martien has two different listings. We stayed in the house, about one hundred meters from the wine tasting/restaurant facility. It was absolutely perfect!! Quiet, safe, and very recently refurbished. Only down side ... no wine tasting on Sunday. If you are planning to stay on Sunday, plan to stay an extra day! Martien really went the extra mile, sharing some port with us, and more! Don't think twice, it is great.
  • Nicole ★★★★★

My partner and I really enjoyed staying at Martiens' place. It is located on a wine and brandy estate, which is really quite special. The estate does, however, hold weddings which I would think may sometimes be a little loud. We arrived just before a wedding, and the festivities were a bit loud but we didn't mind as we went out for dinner and came back exhausted - so we slept through any wedding-related noise. Martiens also has a second room available that is further away - which might suit guests who are more noise-sensitive :) Martiens was a lovely host, making himself available to give us great advice and suggestions for things to do in the area. He also kindly offered to help with meals if needed, though we mostly had our meals sorted out beforehand. Finally, Martiens gave us a fantastic tour of the wine estate/cellars and talked us through the wine-making process and history of the region during a long wine-tasting of the estate's wines. His breadth of knowledge on the topic was fantastic. We would definitely recommend staying at Bezalel!
  • Roscoe ★★★★★

The location is a great base to explore the Green Kalahari and the Quiver tree route. If you looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life this is the place to stay. Real Norhern Cape hospitality from the Bezalel team. Lovely treats from the restaurant 👌🏼😋
  • Lorena ★★★★★

My friend and I spent one night in the room. Martiens is a great host and tried everything possible to make our stay unforgettable. Even though the kitchen was actually closed we got a very nice dinner I'm their beautiful garden. I can absolutely recommend this accommodation!
  • Hillebrant ★★★★★

We had a great time at Bezalel! The room is nice and spacious with complimentary port and brandy made at the estate. We really appreciated the personal touch in helping us around in the area.
